High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan

HIGH SHERIFF OF MID GLAMORGAN

The new High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan, which covers Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taf, is David Davies JP from Aberfan.
The history of High Sheriffs is a long one – they were certainly around in the 10th century, leading troops into the Battle of Hastings. Indeed, the post is the oldest secular office after the Crown itself and remains a personal appointment of The Queen.

As well as being Her Majesty's representative for law and order, the modern day High Sheriff spends much of his or her time supporting the voluntary sector generally. David has chosen as his main charity Llamau which is the leading charity in Wales supporting homeless young people (including those at risk of homelessness) and vulnerable women.

David will also be seeking nominations for the High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan Youth Community Awards, which rewards young people - individuals and groups - aged 11-21 for the community works they carry out among us. Nominations close in January, with a presentation evening in March in Bridgend and prizes of up to £1,000. There is also the opportunity to be entered in a national competition with the winners being invited to London – and, twice in the past 5 years, a group from Mid Glamorgan has won the overall national prize!

David looks forward to upholding the finest traditions of this ancient office; and, in doing so, to meet as many of you as possible and to serve the communities of Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taf. Get in touch on highsheriff@ynysygored.co.uk or 07962 646866.
