Aim
This course provides an overview of the responsibilities held by managers or trustees with specific involvement in charity financial administration.

Content
Charities and voluntary organisations can be vulnerable to theft, damage to or mismanagement of funds, and other financial risks. Learn how to protect your organisation and demonstrate robustness thereby increasing the likelihood of gaining funding. This course provides an overview of the responsibilities held by managers or trustees with specific involvement in charity financial administration.

Learning outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
  • Explain the procedures required for adequate and appropriate financial controls within charities.
  • Provide examples of good practice in relation to financial controls.
  • Define the term “reserves” as applicable to the charitable sector and assess the appropriateness of your reserves policy.
  • State the policies that should be in place for effective financial management of a charity.
  • Explain the significance of the Charities SORP for account preparation and fundraising applications.
Who this course is for
Staff or trustees with specific involvement in charity financial administration.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is launching an exciting opportunity to help shape the support for young people and those with mental health conditions in your area.

Young Persons Community Partner

The Young Persons Community Partner will act as a role model to inspire young people, deliver targeted support and support families through parents’ forums. You will work collaboratively with young disabled people, their parents, local support services and employers to develop a holistic employment plan and a tailored network of support. The Young Persons Community Partner will form part of a team of Community Partners, working collaboratively with the third sector in strengthening disability awareness within Jobcentre Plus across a range of specialisms. Roles are available across Scotland, England and Wales.

About you

You will have a lived experience or in-depth understanding of working with young disabled people, the barriers they face in everyday life and may encounter when seeking and sustaining long term employment. You may be interested in a fixed-term appointment opportunity or a secondment from your current organisation. Both fixed-term appointments and secondments are available for 12 months with a possible extension for a further 11 months. Organisations are also invited to offer secondment opportunities to their staff.

Mental Health Community Partner

The Mental Health Community Partner will help shape the support people with mental health conditions receive, support the development of a national mentoring network and build relationships with organisations specialising in mental health in your area. Training Skills from WCVA

WCVA have a Training skills course which has been planned as part of our external training programme for 14, 15 February and 16 March 2017, in Cardiff

The course is Agored Cymru accredited course (6 credits at Level 3).  

The course fee is £375 for WCVA members (this is the rate we will charge any organisation that books from our networks).

The closing date for bookings is next Tuesday 31 January.

Active Monitoring Practitioner (AMP)

Grade:  NJC Point 24 £21,745 pro rata
Hours:                  24 hours per week – possible additional hours

Location:            Within GP surgeries across Cynon Valley, Taff Ely and Rhondda areas

 
We are a mental health and wellbeing charity and we deliver a range of community based services across Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taff.

Active Monitoring provides support to people who visit their GP with symptoms of common emotional needs including stress, anxiety and depression.

 This service will offer one-to-one support for up to 8 weeks.   An AMP will work with Clients to help them understand their symptoms and apply self-directed support.

 We are looking for Counsellors to work within the Active Monitoring service by applying psycho-educational self-directed interventions to people experiencing mild-to-moderate mental health and wellbeing needs.

The Diana Award is a charity legacy to Diana, Princess of Wales’ belief that young people have the power to change the world.

 2017 is a very special year as it marks the 20th Anniversary of Princess Diana’s passing. We plan to celebrate Diana’s life and legacy throughout the year and as a part of the celebrations we have announced the ‘Inaugural Legacy Award’ which will look to highlight the achievements of 20 exceptional young people from across the world for their selfless commitment to transforming the lives of others.

 As the search begins for these outstanding young people who embody the late Princess’ qualities of compassion, kindness and service, The Diana Award calls out to communities and organisations across the world to nominate a young person who is deserving of such honour.

Possible Support from Business in the Community

BITC Cymru  is the Prince’s Responsible Business Network in Wales.  We are the business-led charity that works with companies of all sizes and sectors to together we are making a positive difference to our nation’s shared economic, social and environmental challenges.

Do you know community organisations or charities in the Merthyr Tydfil area who could benefit from the expertise and support of business volunteers?

Business in the Community Cymru works with businesses of all sizes and sectors and provides employee volunteering opportunities throughout the year for them to support communities with the greatest needs. 

Give & Gain Day is a celebration of the power and potential of employee volunteering and is sponsored in Wales this year by the Welsh Government and Wales & West Utilities Ltd.  It will take place 8-12 May 2017 and BITC will support employee volunteers to get out in their communities to support local projects with their skills, experience, passion and commitment.
